Bathroom Lighting Ideas
Lighting can be almost as important as the colors you choose for your bathroom. Most people assume that there is only so much you can do with lighting when in fact there is really a ton of ideas and approaches to lighting your bathroom.
A quick visit to the lighting section of your local hardware store and you'll quickly realize that there are a lot of choices. You can go with small halogen lighting or the common fluorecents and standard lights. I also suggest having two sets of lighting, one that's dim and perfect for tub relaxation and another for the down to business shower (shaving etc.)
Some Great Bathroom Lighting Tips and Ideas
Here are my favorite bathroom lighting tips (in no particular order.)
- Recessed lighting - I might be a little obsessed with these but they can really work wonders if placed right in the bathroom. Be sure to not to place them too close together and in the right spot (maybe near the mirror or over the shower/tub.) If you place these there be sure to ask the hardware store if they're ul rated for the application. It always helps to place them close to wall to help prevent as much glare on the floor surface.
- Vanity lighting - Definitely want something other than the recessed lighting here, the common above-mirror vanity light sets work here. There's nothing worse than having shadows on your face. Also, I recommend the "white" light bulbs for a sunlight-like bright.
- Accent lighting - Don't get carried away here like I've seen some people do, but accent lighting can really improve the feel of your bathroom. For example, rope lighting on a recessed cealing is beautiful for a bathroom design, especially if you enjoy your time in the tub.
